Author Interview: V. L. Locey
*****************************
Hi Vicki. Thank you
for being with us today. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
It's my pleasure! Thank you for having me. I'm an
erotic hockey romance author who pens both M/F and M/M romances under the non
de plume of V.L. Locey. I live in the mountains of Pennsylvania on a small
hobby farm with my husband of 24 years, my daughter the college sophomore, 2
dogs, 2 cats, 3 steers, and countess numbers of domesticated poultry.
Please tell us about
Venom series, and what inspired you
to write it?
When I was about halfway through my Wildcat series,
I knew I had to make a decision about how many books to write. I had laid out
enough for 6 and truly didn't wish to go much further than that. But gosh darn
it, I wasn't ready to leave Philadelphia and the characters of the Wildcat
series behind. So I came up with a new series about a woman's pro hockey team
coming into the City of Brotherly Love. And the Venom were born!
How
much research did you have to carry out for this book?
Anyone
who writes sports romance needs to know the sport they are writing about or
they'll be in trouble quickly. I'm not saying you have to be an expert but a
general knowledge of the sport is really needed. Since I'm a HUGE hockey fan,
research can be as wonderful as watching hockey! It can also be as dry as
spending hours sorting through NHL by-laws. Every book has a new wrinkle that
needs researched and Clean Sweep was no different. There are rules for women's
hockey that differ from the NHL, so I had to know what they were as well as
knowing the basics of ice hockey.
What is your writing process like? To what extent do
you plan and how much do you just let the plot and the characters speak for
themselves?
I
am a huge seat of the pants writer. I generally lay about a light plot with a
beginning and end. I also make character bios. Other than that the book belongs
to the characters and they take it where they wish.
Are any of the characters in your novels based on
people you know?
Most
aren't although there may be personality traits from people I know that I
incorporate into a character. Real hockey players have inspired quite a few of
my fictional players.
What is the best thing about being an author? What
do you find the most challenging?
The
best thing is being paid to put down the stories that rattle around inside my
brain. And there is a never-ending supply of them! The most challenging is
trying to simply keep up with the incredible amount of work that goes on behind
the scenes of a book. If only the authors job ended when they typed "The
End"!
What type
of books do you like to read? Have you any favourite authors?
I read a wide range but erotic romances are my
weakness. A few of my favorite authors are Diana Gabaldon, J.R.Ward, George R.R.
Martin, Rick Riordan, and Armistead Maupin.
Can you
tell us about what you working on at the moment?
Sure! I'm working on a M/M hockey novella called
Crashing the Crease that will be part of this year's Seduced by the Game cancer
charity collection.100% of all proceeds will be donated to the NHL's Hockey
Fights Cancer charity organization.
Have you
any advice to give to aspiring authors?
There are two important things for aspiring authors
to keep in mind. 1-Your book will not get written if you don't have your butt
in the chair. 2-Don't let anyone ever tell you that you are too old, young,
fat, skinny, rich, poor, tall, short, straight, gay etc. to write that book.
And
finally, have you a message for readers?
I'd like to thank every single person out there who
takes the time to read and review. Without reader support we authors couldn`t
do what we do. *hugs*
Thank you so much for
giving up your time to answer these questions for us. We wish you best of luck
with Clean Sweep and your future
work.

Biography
V.L. Locey loves worn jeans, belly
laughs, anything romantic, Greek mythology, New York Rangers hockey, comic books and coffee. (Not necessarily in
that order.) She shares her life with her husband, her daughter, one dog, two
cats, a steer named after a famous N.H.L. goalie, a pig with the same moniker as a famous
President, and a flock of assorted domestic fowl.
V.L. is a self-published and
conventionally published author. She is a proud Torquere Press and Secret
Cravings Publishing author. When not writing romantic tales, she can be found
enjoying her day with her menagerie in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania with a
cup of fresh java in hand, writing, or cheering on her beloved New York
Rangers. She can also be found online on Facebook, Twitter, and GoodReads.
